Since I haven't had much time for Project Gaia (or projects in general) and won't have for the next two weeks, I'll write about something easier today. And be honest, who doesn't like an old-fashioned top 10 list?
Before I go on with the top 10, I want to do some honorable mentions. There are a few games I like to pick up and play through from time to time:
- Monkey Island 1 to 3
- Rayman 1 to 2 for PS1
- Crash Bandicoot 1 to 3
- Spyro the Dragon 1 to 3
- Ratchet and Clank 1 to 3
- Devil May Cry 3 and 5
- The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Wind Waker
- Sonic Adventure 2
- Portal 1 and 2
Okay now that that's out of the way, I can continue with the real top 10. The ranking in this case represents the intensity of emotions I felt while playing. So without further ado, my absolute favorite games of all time:
That might be the game Pokémon fans already wanted for decades, but was never officially developed for some reason. Well, the Pokémon franchise is dead to me anyway. The MMO made it onto the list because Abe and I "nutzlocked" the Fire Red variant together. The "cooperative" battle against the top 4 was one of the most intense gaming experiences I ever had!
9. Chrono Trigger
Oh Chrono Trigger, simply spoken you're such a beautiful game! The Story, the atmosphere, the music(!) and the gameplay are masterfully composed. The game might be multiple decades old, but imho it can easily run equal with any modern title!
Gothic (especially 1 and 2) generally is, what I thing open world games with a story should be like. I always preferred Gothic over other, more sandboxy games (like e.g. Skyrim)! Also I think it was one of the first games that gave me choices, that actually influenced the further course of the game.
7. Final Fantasy
I haven't played all Final Fantasy Games, yet, but I played most of them. I've developed the following opinion: 7 to 10 are absolute masterpieces, everything coming after is total Shit! 4 was pretty cool, 3 was absolutely boring, 1 is just old and I don't really know, if I like 6 or not. I never played 2 and 5.
6. Brütal Legend
Tenacious D the Videogame. Really, as a metal fan Brütal Legend totally satisfies all my tastes. I can't find anything the game is doing wrong! That unique mixture of open world action adventure and something like a MOBA, combined with Jack Black humor, great music and graphics is just the shit for me!
Allright, that was the first half of my top 10 favorite games of all time. The top 5 will follow next week. I'm off then to go to Comic Con in Stuttgart. Write me, if you think that list already turns out to be garbage! Then I can tell you, how wrong you are! ;)
Okay, until next week then! Baaaaaaaai!
